This might be nitpicking, but I'd like to see the rebel flag icons redone to reflect the Confederate national flag. While the Union flag would be correct for all theaters, the Army of Northern Virginia's battle flag, which is what we have in the game, is incorrect for both the early part of the war and many other Confederate commands. It would add a further touch of realism to help set it apart from 'gaminess'. I bet there will be quite a few players, if this is implemented, who will say, "what the hell is this flag?". And when we see a million posts in the forum about it, we'll be able to explain that they are seeing the REAL Confederate flag, and they will have learned something. Mission accomplished ;)

Of course I'll do the grunt work.. after the forts get straightened out :mum:

I also meant the early early part of the war.. as in Manassas, before Beauregard designed the 'Stars and Bars' that inflames the ignorant passion of so many who are ignorant of history.

So we are talking now of swapping the flags out.
Getting rid of of the Stars and Bars and using the one below as the flag for the Army.
and keep hoisting the Stainless as the Naval ensign.

We might want to do something with the Union Navy ensign and get rid of that sleeve cuff
and put the 34 star flag up.

I always love it when it makes someone go HUH???

There are some really wild designs for the Confederate flags. The Hardee flag was just blue with a white oval in the center. The Van Dorn flag was red with a white moon in the upper left and white stars throughout the field. Polk's corps had a blue flag with a vertical and horizontal red cross with white stars.

The Stars and Bars that so many people THINK is the Confederate flag was actually the battle flag of Lee's army and later on the battle flag of Johnston's army in the west. The stars and bars was NEVER approved by the Confederate congress except on the 'stainless' banner.

IIRC those flags were drawn many moons ago by Bob Wallace, who did most of the Mega Campaign artwork. I really doubt Bob took the time to dissect the guts of the game like we're doing here (ahem, you guys are doing here.. )

This is the same reasoning behind my putting everything in the actual Vietnamese and French languages in the Nam mod. I don't want people to need Rosetta Stone to be able to play it but anyone who is serious about SP, history, and learning something new will be able to figure it out. Which is who I believe we're catering to

If your not learning something you didn't know then you just playing a game. I like to think that there
is more to a game then just beating it. Any 10 year old Nintendo junkie can do that. I play to exercise
my brain not my trigger finger.

My passion for the Civil War will not be satisfied by a Nintendo-type game. Of course, this is not MY mod but I want this to be an experience for people, and especially other CW buffs who will appreciate the details and offer corrections if needed.

I noticed that when playing the AI, the commanders tend to move far ahead of their regiments. I guess this is the AI being the AI.

Maybe I'll have to do PBEM for good..

I have no problem with changing the flag...the Stars and Bars was, as you say, already in the original mod, so I kept it. Switching things out won't take but a couple hours, provided the 6 BMP files are ready (one for the Battle SHP, 3 for the Batbut SHP (buttons), one for Icon 16 (VH flags), and one for Icon 61 (unit ID flags)).

Do you need the various BMP files to edit? I can post them here, so you won't have to extract them from all 4 SHP files.

For some reason, Yankee artillery crews have Sharps carbines as well as pistols. They are also quite deadly. Is this intentional?

Well, the Confederate crews have Model 1860 Carbines and LeMat pistols, so....

If they are too deadly, I can either remove the carbines and arm them with just pistols, or, move the carbine to Slot #2 , where fewer men will fire it.

I may be wrong but I don't think arty crews had carbines in real life. Anyway they are more deadly than a musket volley from a full rifle unit.
